Parkdale Cemetery, Arlington

About Parkdale Cemetery, Arlington

In May 1910, Hugh M. and Mary Moore opened Moore Funeral Home in downtown Arlington, at the corner of Main and Mesquite streets. It was located in the back of E.E. Smith Furniture and House Furnishings. Their 3 sons—Harry, Howard “Gumpy” and Robert “Bob”—joined their father as the funeral home business grew to accommodate a growing population.

In the 30s, Hugh established Parkdale Cemetery on Mary Street. The cemetery also adjoins Arlington Cemetery. In the mid-50s, Moore Funeral Home acquired White Chapel Memorial Gardens in what was then far North Arlington. Renamed Moore Memorial Gardens, the Moore brothers built a funeral home on the grounds. It opened on North Davis Drive in 1963.

As the population of the city of Arlington continued to expand, so did Moore Funeral Home. In 1996, the brothers opened a 3rd Arlington-area location—Moore Funeral Home, Bowen Road Chapel—at the corner of Bowen Road and Pleasant Springs, near I-20, to conveniently serve the needs of southeast Tarrant County, including Mansfield and Kennedale.
